Round cluster or linear bar?
Round clusters read well from every side, so they suit stairwells, square rooms and round tables. Linear arrangements suit long tables and kitchen islands. As a guide, keep the fitting at least 30 cm narrower than the table on each side.
How do I set the drop heights?
Many cluster pendants have individually adjustable cables. Stagger the drops by 10–20 cm for a cascade in a stairwell, or keep them level over a table so no one looks straight into a bulb. Over a table, the lowest light should sit 75–90 cm above the top.
What about weight and wiring?
One ceiling rose carries the whole fitting, so check the weight on the product page against your ceiling fixing. Add up the wattage of all the bulbs and use LED bulbs to keep heat and running costs down.
Can I dim a cluster pendant?
Yes, if the bulbs and dimmer are compatible. Choose dimmable LED bulbs and a trailing-edge LED dimmer rated for the combined load.
What does SP3 or SP5 mean?
In Ideal Lux names SP means suspension and the number is the number of lights, so SP5 is a five-light pendant. See our guide to Ideal Lux product codes.

How high should a cluster pendant hang in a stairwell?
Hang it so the lowest light is roughly level with the first-floor landing, with at least 2.1 m clear headroom on the stairs.
Can I dim a multi-light pendant?
Yes, with dimmable bulbs and an LED-rated dimmer sized for the total load.
Is a cluster pendant the same as a chandelier?
They do the same job. Chandeliers usually have arms and a central frame; cluster pendants hang separate lights from one canopy.
How many lights do I need over a dining table?
A three- to five-light cluster suits most tables seating six to eight.
