When are they installed?
Trimless fittings go in before the ceiling is skimmed, so plan positions early with your electrician and plasterer. The plaster frame is listed on the product page where it is a separate part.
Glare
Choose deep-set or low-glare versions in living spaces, so you see the light, not the source.
Trim or trimless?
Trimmed downlights are quicker to fit and easier to move later. Trimless ones look cleaner but cost a little more to install because of the plastering.
Questions
Can trimless downlights go in an existing ceiling?
Yes, but the ceiling around each fitting must be made good and re-skimmed.
Are trimless downlights more expensive to install?
Usually slightly, because of the plastering step.
Do trimless downlights need a deeper void?
Check the recess depth on the product page.
Can I change a trimless downlight later?
The light source can usually be replaced from below; the frame stays plastered in.
