Which dimming method?
Phase dimming works with a wall dimmer on existing wiring. DALI and 1-10V need control wiring and a compatible controller, and suit larger homes and commercial projects. Push dim uses a simple retractive switch.
The driver decides
Where a downlight needs a separate driver, the driver sets the dimming method. Compatible drivers are listed under What you need with this fitting.
Avoiding flicker
Use an LED-rated trailing-edge dimmer and check its minimum load.
Questions
Will my existing dimmer work?
Only if the downlight is phase-dimmable and the dimmer is LED-rated for the total load.
What is DALI dimming?
A digital control standard where each light can be addressed individually.
What is push dim?
Dimming with a retractive push switch: hold to dim, tap to switch.
Why do my downlights flicker when dimmed?
Usually an incompatible dimmer or a load below the dimmer's minimum.
